Summary

Fine-needle percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography has proven to be a useful procedure in the differential diagnosis of jaundice. It is generally considered to be a simple and safe technique, but because of its frequent use new complications continue to be reported.

This paper describes an unusual lymphothorax of the right side in a middle-aged female. The pleural effusion that developed after the procedure required 48 thoracenteses, and reached a total amount of 56,480 ml during a 218-day period. The lymphothorax was finally controlled by suturing a tiny pinhole on a dilated lymphatic channel on the upper right lateral surface of the diaphragm.
