Abstract
The density fluctuations induced by4He impurities in a thin film of normal liquid3He, as well as by the presence of a boundary, are studied. Analytic expressions for the (linear) response of the system to these fluctuations are derived and the basic features of the effective interaction between two4He impurities in the3He bath are outlined. Some experimental implications and possible extensions are discussed.
