An investigation of high-power removable induction units for melting zinc with a ceramic-fiber base lining

Refractories Aims and scope

Conclusions

Tests were made of a high-power removable induction unit with direct flow of the metal. The design of induction unit developed operates stably with a required power of 550 kW but the level of metal in the bath must be more than 250 mm.

The ceramic fiber and high-alumina cement lining serves reliably in melting and heating of zinc under increased power conditions. The use of basalt board is recommended for the butt seal of the separable joint.

Restarting of the furnace with solid metal remaining in the channel may be done in the extreme case not more than once.
