Conclusions
The elastic resistance of the clays studied can be arranged in the following descending order: Poldnevskiy, Yuzhnaya Troitsa and Nizhniy Uvel.
An increase in chamotte in the mixtures considerably reduces the elastic expansion.
An increased moisture content and pressing pressure increases the elastic expansion.
Wetting with dross (instead of water) reduces elastic resistance and steps up the density of mixtures containing 65% chamotte; dross with the addition of 1% soda should be added to multichamotte mixtures.
During the experiments a pressing time of 30 seconds, and a holding time of not less than 10 seconds, produced a bulk density of 2.12 g/cm3.
