Conclusions

We studied the influence of the form and amount of stabilizer and the synthesis schedules on the phase ratios in the approximate eutectic compositions for the systems ZrO2-Al2O3 (MgAl2O4, SiO2, mullite), and also the thermodynamic stability and mechanical properties of the ceramics based on them.

Stabilization of zirconia is possible in all the systems investigated; and the optimum amounts of stabilizing additions were determined for the stated synthesis cycles.

It is established that the most satisfactory mechanical properties are exhibited by specimens in the ZrO2-Al2O3 system with the use of 4% Y2O3.
