Conclusions
Using the standard production technology for chamotte refractories, reinforcing the molding mixture of low-calcined chamotte with ceramic fiber and flake (in a proportion of 5% or less) gives a high-density composite material of an open porosity below 5%.
The spalling resistance of this material is 4–6 times better than that of ordinary chamotte of the same porosity.
The reinforced materials are superior to the unreinforced type also in terms of the residual tensile strength after thermal shocks of 200–1400°C.
