Conclusions
Scandium oxide consists of aggregations of crystals of various sizes.
Protracted wet grinding in a ball mill breaks up the aggregations to give a finely dispersed powder.
The density of the moldings depends essentially on the molding pressure and varies only marginally (excepting for the specimens molded from powder ground for 48 h) with the grinding time.
The relative density after firing was at a maximum in specimens molded from Sc2O3 powder ground for 48 h.
