Efficiency of electric filters for removing magnesite dust

Conclusions

Tests of experimental-industrial electric filters PGDS, fitted behind rotary kilns Nos. 7 and 8 for burning magnesite at the Magnezit Factory showed that with a gas velocity in the filter of 1.4 m/sec, and heating the kiln with natural gas, the efficiency of the equipment is 94.4%. The relatively low efficiency of the filter is due to the high electrical resistance of the magnesite dust, and as a result of this the operation of the equipment in a back corona cycle.

To speed up the operation of the electric filter we recommend conditioning of the dust—gas current.

Heating rotary kilns with high-sulfur oil, the effectiveness of the filter with a gas velocity of 1.2 m/sec after 25 days of continuous operation dropped from 91.8 to 57.7%. The main cause of the unsatisfactory operation of the filter is the overgrowth of the electrodes with a layer of dust (of the Sorel cement type) which is difficult to remove.

Thus, using oil, the electric filters of the Magnezit Factory cannot guarantee effective dust removal.

In order to increase the efficiency of the filters it is necessary to make a study of the effectiveness of additives to the oil (liquid additives) developed by Soviet industry.
