Refractories Aims and scope

Conclusions

Savinsk magnesite is a vast raw material base for the production of magnesia refractories. The magnesite is poorly sintered because of the content of talc; it is stained dark brown with violet shading after firing, due to the presence of manganese compounds.

It is possible to obtain sintered powder with a porosity of less than 10% from magnesite in rotary kilns. The articles made from this magnesite have a high refractoriness under load of 2 kg/cm2.

Low-quality Savinsk magnesite can be enriched; the resulting concentrate is suitable for the production of all magnesia refractories.

It is planned to manufacture an industrial batch of roof refractories from Savinsk magnesite, and to test them in service.
