Conclusions
A regime for rotary calcining difficult-to-sinter Shchelkov dolomites has been developed which ensures the stable production of clinker with an apparent density (volumetric weight) of not less than 3.0 g/cm3.
Rational material and granular compositions of the charge have been selected, and parameters have been specified for the production technology of tar — dolomite refractories by pressing a body using “soft” prepared coal tar as a binder from cold to 25–35°C. The refractory shop NLMZ has established production of tar — dolomite ware of high quality and accurate dimensions.
As a result of improving the quality of tar — dolomite refractories, thickening the working layer of the linings, and using a rational regime for preliminary firing them, an improvement and stabilization of the quality of the charge materials (iron and lime), and an improvement in the technology of converter melts, the average life of the converter linings of NLMZ has been increased in May 1968 to 467 melts, and in July to 477; the maximum life obtained was 546 melts.
The joint research work of NLMZ and VIO is directed towards a further increase in the life of converter linings.
