Untersuchungen zur Cellulosebildung in Baumwollsamen

Investigations on cellulose formation in cotton seeds

Summary

In cottonseed-hairs a structural polysaccharide is formed very early. According to DC, IR and X-ray investigation it represents an amorphous cellulose containing a tightly bound protein fraction. Starting with about the 20th day of maturing, crystalline cellulose of constant degree of polymerization is formed, which still contains a constant, though very small fraction of protein, which may be regarded as a residue of the synthesis-apparatus.
