Conclusions
We discovered certain individual additives (MgO and MnO2) and also some combined additives which have a beneficial effect on the sintering of kaolin.
It is advisable to use magnesium oxide as the sintering additive when making dense chamotte from kaolinite raw material. Caustic and metallurgical magnesite may be used to introduce the magnesium oxide.
The addition of a sintering additive together with peptizers (including combined ones) intensifies their sintering effect compared with the addition of each of these materials separately. The possibility of attaining the necessary degree of density with a small quantity of sintering additive is particularly important from the viewpoint of maintaining a high refractoriness of the tile.
The inclusion of sintering and peptizing additives makes it possible to produce kaolin chamotte of the specified water absorption at lower temperatures than without any additive.
Additives in the chamotte produce kaolin parts with high refractory properties. The results obtained should be tested under industrial conditions.
