Conclusions

The deciding factor in the wear resistance of refractories in converters smelting low-carbon ferro-chrome is the composition of the initial metal, chiefly its silica content.

To lengthen the converter run it is advisable to make the tuyere zone lining with thicker and more resistant refractories (for example, fused magnesite), and to make the remaining brickwork with periclase-spinel brick.

To cut down the specific consumption of refractories intermediate repairs should be made to the lining.
