Summary
The chemical composition of crystalline inclusions, which have been detected in the double nuclear membrane with the electron microscope (Perrin 1969) was studied by enzymatic digestion. The crystals were digested in thin sections by pepsin and after 1 hour of incubation, nearly all the crystalline inclusions had disappeared entirely leaving empty spaces.
These results demonstrate that the nuclear crystals are composed primarily of protein.
