Acid phosphomonoesterase activities (β-glycerophosphatase and naphthol AS-MX phosphatase) in conducting tissues of bryophytes

  • Published:
Protoplasma Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A strong acid-phosphomonoesterase (acid-phosphatase) activity has been revealed in the differentiating water-conducting elements of various mosses and of one liverwort. A more discrete activity has also been occasionally observed in leptom cells, and in certain parenchymatous elements associated with conductive cells in the most developed gametophytes of certainPolytricales. Some implications of these observations are discussed.
