Summary
In this paper a theoretical model has been developed for peristaltic flow through circular cylindrical tubes with elastic walls. The model consists of an elastic pipe connecting with two fluid filled rigid vessels. The peristaltic motion is produced by an external peristaltic pressure along the axis of the tube. It is assumed that the walls of the pipe are sufficiently thin, so that the circumferential stress can be taken to be constant over the wall thickness. In this one-dimensional unsteady theory it is assumed that the flow is laminar. The nonlinear partial differential equations of a hyperbolic type have been solved numerically by a difference method of second-order accuracy. The results also show that the influence of the elastic wall and the nonlinearities can be very strongly.
