Summary

  1. 1.

There are two types of spermatogenesis in every testis ofScutigera forceps, one of which follows orthodox lines while the other is unusual in several respects.

  2. 2.

The unusual features of the latter comprise extraordinary spermatogonial generations, and omission of pairing in the first spermatocyte division. Nevertheless there is a reduction in the second division and all resulting spermatids carry a haploid set of chromosomes.

  3. 3.

Cytophotometric analysis shows that the two different types of spermatogenesis are correlated with differences in the DNA and “histone” contents of the nuclei.
