Sensitivity of baby hamster kidney (BHK 21-C13) cells to enteric viruses

Summary

Viruses of the picornavirus, reovirus and adenovirus groups were inoculated into BHK-21 cells and the cultures examined for the development of cytopathic effects. Of the 55 strains of virus tested, only tissue-culture adapted strains of coxsackieviruses A7 and A10 and the three prototype strains of reoviruses produced CPE in these cells.
