-
1.
Erstvirus i. p. — Zweitvirus i. p.
-
2.
Erstvirus i, p. — Zweitvirus i. c.
-
3.
Erstvirus i. c. — Zweitvirus i. p. durchgeführt.
Summary
To investigate the interference against vesicular stomatitis virus of polyoma virus and the thymus and LDH agents respectively, all inoculated into new-born mice, the following combinations were tried:
-
1)
first virus intraperitoneally — second virus intraperitoneally.
-
2)
first virus intraperitoneally — second virus intracerebrally.
-
3)
first virus intracerebrally — second virus intraperitoneally.
The intraperitoneally injected first virus blocked the reproduction of the second virus in the organs of primary affinity. Accordingly the otherwise resulting viraemia and consequent lethal encephalitis did not occur. The thymus and LDH agents had a weaker interfering action than polyoma virus, which needed an interval of seven days to achieve maximum interference. The second combination did not result in an increased survival rate but the first cycle of virus reproduction in the brain was inhibited. In spite of high virus titres in the brain only small amounts of virus were found in the blood The reproduction of the second virus in the organs of primary affinity was blocked also in this combination. The third combination resulted in a complete inhibition of the second virus and there were no disease symptoms due to this virus.
