Summary
It was possible to demonstrate that patients suffering from postencephalic Parkinson's disease show, in different vegetative regulations spheres, a behavior which may be classified as regulation rigidity according toA. Sturm.
-
1.
Phosphorous rigidity. Patients suffering from Parkinson's disease respond to adrenaline charges by a normal increase in blood sugar. The compensatory decrease of anorganic phosphorus does not occur.
-
2.
Alpha-methyl-DOPA, as the inhibitory substance of decarboxylasis, reduces the blood pressure in hypertonic and normotonic patients while it remains absolutely constant in patients suffering from Parkinson's disease.
-
3.
Postencephalic patients show a rigidity of regulation in so far as they are not able to increase the physical discharge of heat by opening the arterio-venous anastomoses in the apexes, above all, in the terminal phalanxes of the extremities.
-
4.
This rigidity of regulation cannot be influenced by the application of L-DOPA but it shows a tendency toward normalization after injections with 5-HTP.
-
5.
By biochemical analyses of serotonine, noradrenaline and dopamine in different cerebral regions of brains affected with Parkinson's disease, one could find a deficit of these substances in various topic parts. This deficit can be normalized by injections of a respective precursor and by the application of MAO inhibitors which is accompanied, in the case of L-DOPA, by an improvement of the akinesis and, in the case of 5-hydroxy-tryptophane, by a normalization of the thermic regulation.
