Summary
Frequently it is desired to determine small amounts of phenol in slight quantities of test material.
A microphotometric phenol determination is given to cover such cases. The phenol is determined with 1 ml of starting solution by means of 2.6dibromoquinone-4-chlorimide at pH 9.40. The extinction is measured in 10-cm capillary cells at 590–610 mμ. It is possible to determine phenol contents of 0.01 to 0.5μg/ml with an error of ±2.5%.
