Summary
Mice can be infected without any inoculation by giving them food mixed with very great amounts of a virulent influenza-A virus. Some of the mice so treated died of the infection, within a short time, showing extensive lung lesions, and a certain per cent acquired immunity against intranasai infection with the same virus. The infection by means of the food depends primarily upon the quantity and the virulence of the virus used. Further investigation is wanted to decide how the virus enters the system, whether it reaches the lungs through resorption or through the upper air passages during the act of swallowing.
