Summary
The accuracy of the guinea pig method for assay of the antigenic capacity of poliomyelitis virus was investigated. Titres were recorded as antigenic extinction limit titres in log units. The precision of the method was not influenced significantly by variation of the amount of antigen used for immunization of the animals. If the titres were adjusted by comparison to a concurrently tested reference antigen, a difference between two such adjusted titres of 0.8 log units might be considered as significant. In addition an example of the applicability of the method is given.
