Manometric measurement of a cell-virus relationship

  • Published:
Archiv für die gesamte Virusforschung Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A method for rapid measurement of HeLa cell destruction by cytopathic poliovirus based upon alterations of the rate of oxygen uptake of infected cell populations is presented. Alterations of the rate of respiration of infected cell populations occurred concomitantly maximal virus production. The magnitude of the alteration in rate of oxygen uptake was proportional to the virus-cell ratio within limits. Quantification of the yield of virus as well as the length of the latent period could be readily made.
