Summary
By intracerebral and intraspinal inoculation of Rhesus monkeys with the strains HEV-3 and “Magdeburg” of the type ECHO-9, it was not possible to produce a process in the central nervous system of the animals with pathological-anatomical changes.
The strain D 272 was provided byVerlinde as infectious mouse material and as infectious tissue culture material. The infectious mouse material, after intracerebral and intraspinal inoculation, also produced no morphological changes in the central nervous system of the monkeys.
The infectious tissue culture material of strain D 272 contained both ECHO-9 and polio virus type II. The morphological changes produced in the central nervous system of the monkeys by this strain are described, and it is discussed whether a possible interfering or synergising action of the two components of this strain may occur in the forming of the pathological-anatomical changes.
