Summary
The multiplication of two strains of mouse hepatitis virus, a virulent (MHV-3) and a mild (MHV-1) strain, and the course of interferon production were followed in normal mice and in mice with livers regenerating after partial hepatectomy. Virus growth in regenerating tissue was faster and attaining higher levels than in normal livers. The yield of interferon also increased during regeneration, and recovery from the infection produced by MHV-1 may be related to the ratio between interferon and virus yield.
