Summary
Neomycin stimulates the reproduction of poliovirus, type 3, in primary monkey kidney tissue cultures. Infected cultures, incubated in the presence of 667 μg or 1330 μg Neomycin/ml, exhibited earlier cytopathic effects and about 50-fold higher titers, when compared to infected control cultures, after 48 hours of incubation.
Polymyxin has similar effects on the reproduction of poliovirus in primary monkey kidney tissue cultures. Cytopathic effects appeared earlier than usual, and virus titers are increased about 100-fold over normal after 36 hours of incubation at 37°C in the presence of 67–100 μg Polymyxin/ml.
