Summary
Fetal calf serum contains an inhibitor which inhibits the hemagglutination of rubellavirus in vitro. The inhibitor has properties of a β-lipoprotein: It is found in the macroglobulin fraction (gel-filtration with Sephadex G-200). Its density is 1,04 g/ml. It is precipitable by dextransulfate and heparin in the presence of divalent cations and by anti-β-lipoprotein antibody. Electrophoretically, however, it migrates in the region of lipoprotein. Its activity is heat stable and resistant to trypsin and lipase. Ethylether inactivates the inhibitory activity.
