Summary
This investigation is carried out in newborn rat. In a Part II the conditions in adult rat will be presented.
Pars infundibularis adenohypophyseo is situated just under the 3. ventricle and is separated from this as a whole only by the supraoptico-hypophyseal tract.
Coextensive with the extension of the pars infundibularis the ventricle is mighty widened forming the so called infundibular recess. This contains a colloid substance and affords as to the general in- and outflow of the 3. ventricle optimal circumstances for a sedimentation.
The ependymal border of the recess is broken up with fragmentation of the internal limiting membrane. The colloid in the recess continues down into interstices between the ependymal cells. These pass basally into thick protoplasmatic filaments which with their end feet join the surface of the pars infundibularis and the here situated mantle-plexus. Any capillary loops do not yet ascend into the infundibulum proper. The ependymal cells and their filaments give a strong impression of being engaged in secretory activity.
the author postulates that the hypothalamus exercises its control over the adenohypophysis besides through eventual neural ways to the primary plexus of the portal system also through secretory substances which are transported to the pars distalis via the cerebrospinal fluid and a glial-vascular chain.
