Zusammenfassung
-
1.
Summary
-
1.
The increase in O2-consumption elicited most regularly in the intact rat by hyperthermia is generally considered to be a direct consequence of the rise in body temperature and is explained by the operation ofvan't Hoff's rule. Experiments performed on thyroidectomized and hypophysectomized rats bilateral hypothalamic and epithalamic lesions disprove this conviction and demonstrate conclusively the central nervous origin of the increase in the metabolic rate.
-
2.
A similar conclusion was reached regarding the metabolic effect of hypoxia, for epithalamic lesions may abolish the decrease in O2-consumption and body temperature observed invariably in the intact animal under similar conditions.
Résumé
-
1.
