Summary
To investigate the origin and the course of the afferent pathways of the abdominal and pelvic organs, the relation between the height of spinal anesthesia and the disappearance of the pain in appendicitis and of the pain caused by the experimental dilatation of the stomach, gallbladder, pelvis of the kidney and the urinary bladder were studied.
Histologically, the nerves supplying to these abdominal and pelvic organs were observed in details and the degeneration of myelinated fibres contained in these nerves were traced and a number of the degenerated nerves were counted after the excision of the thoracic, lumbar and sacral spinal ganglions. Employing the histological knowledge, attempts were made to improve the paravertebral alcohol injection therapy and the clinical results were satisfactory.
