Summary
Phenformin inhibited gluconeogenesis by livers from both normal and diabetic rats. However, the concentration of phenformin which inhibited gluconeogenesis by the diabetic livers was not effective in normal livers. It is suggested that an action which is differentially effective in the diabetic state is likely to be clinically relevant.
