Summary
A spot reaction for the identification of tin(II) has been based on the aptitude of triphenyltetrazolium chloride to react with numerous reducing agents. Tin reduces triphenyltetrazolium chloride to red triphenylformazane in a faintly alkaline milieu. The identification occurs on filter paper in the absence of sunlight.
The sensitivity of the reaction is 0.6 mg/l. The dilution limit is 1∶1700.
The spot reaction for identifying tin(II) with the aid of triphényltétrazolium chloride may be used in the systematic analysis of cations of the sulfide group and in the direct identification of tin(II) in the presence of a large number of cations, with the exception of iron(II).
