Summary
Triphenylarsine oxide offers the possibility of separating iron from a great many other elements by means of a simple extraction technique. A solution that is above 8N hydrochloric acid is employed. The effectiveness does not decrease with diminishing amounts of iron. Chloroform is used as the extractant. Practically no reagent is consumed in this mode of separation and hence the method is suited possibly also for preparative procedures.
