Summary
The oxidation products of carbon, hydrogen, sulfur produced in the combustion of inorganic and organic substances alter the conductivity of suitable absorption solutions. This characteristic is employed for the quantitative determination of the these elements. The procedure is characterized by high sensitivity and rapidity of execution. As an average, excluding the weighing of the sample, a single determination takes 2.5 minutes, the entire time for the analysis is 10 minutes. An additional advantage resides in the fact that no further weighings are needed beyond the weighing of the sample. The continuous registration of the conductivity yields information about the course of the combustion process.
