Summary
A method for the determination of 3–60μg of hexacyanoferrate(III) on a paper impregnated with silver chromate is described. In its preparation, the paper (FN-1) is treated with 0.03N K2CrO4 and then imbibed with 0.03N AgNO3. The amount of hexacyanoferrate(III) is given by the weight of the yellow flecks caused by the Ag3[Fe(CN)6] on the red paper as compared with the stain obtained with a standard solution. The procedure is applicable for solutions whose pH=4–8. The precision of the determination is ±1%; the time required is 40 minutes. Mixtures of hexacyanoferrate(III) and (II) may also be analysed under these same conditions. The error does not exceed ± 1 % in the determination of [Fe(CN)6]4− in the presence of the 6–7 fold amount of [Fe(CN)6]3−. The relative error in the determination of [Fe(CN)6]4− is not more than ±2% in the presence of 4–5 fold amount of [Fe(CN)6]3−.
