Summary
An extraction method is described for uranium by tributyl phosphate. It is very economical of time and is suited to the determination of slight amounts of uranium. After the back-extraction, the uranium is determined polarographically with the aid of the catalytic nitrate wave.
After a systematic trial of various organic acids, oxalic acid was found to be the best back-extractant. Uranium itself could be separated from a great excess of cation through a double extraction; only tungsten and molybdenum still interfere, but they can be quickly removed by extraction in the form of their benzoin oxime complexes.
