New colorimetric technique in open siliconed capillaries. Semiquantitative applications

  • Published:
Microchimica Acta Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A new colorimetric ultramicro technique is described which is based on the use of siliconed capillaries open at both ends as a cuvette for the colored solutions. The observation is performed on the stage of a stereoscopic microscope, the use of manipulators being unnecessary. In order to hold the capillaries for observation, a simple moist chamber has been devised.

The technique is simple and proved excellent for qualitative tests. Semiquantitative determinations of cobalt, fluoride and copper have been developed. The method works well in aqueous solutions and low-volatility solvents. In most cases a difference in concentration of 5% or less is detectable.
