Catalytic method for determination of iron in blood serum

Summary

A highly sensitive method for determination of iron in blood serum is proposed, based on the catalytic action of iron on the oxidation ofp-phenetidine with hydrogen peroxide. The method permits very small serum samples (0.05–0.1 ml) to be analysed without previous deproteination and even with turbid lipoid serums. The procedure is very simple and suitable for serial clinical analysis.

Zusammenfassung

Eine hochempfindliche Methode zur Eisenbestimmung in Blutserum wurde vorgeschlagen, die auf der katalytischen Wirkung des Eisens auf die Oxydation vonp-Phenetidin mit Wasserstoffperoxid beruht. Man verwendet dazu sehr kleine Serummengen (0,05–0,1 ml), ohne sie vorher zu enteiwei-ßen, selbst wenn es sich um lipoidgetrübte Seren handelt. Die Arbeitsweise ist einfach und für klinische Serienanalysen geeignet.
