The photometric titration of Fe(III) with EDTA using tiron indicator

Summary

1 × 10−4 M solutions of Fe(III) may be titrated photometrically with EDTA using tiron indicator. Equal concentrations of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cr(III), and Al(III) do not interfere, while Cu(II), Sn(IV), V(IV), and Ti(IV) do. However, Fe(III) concentrations of 2 × 10−5 M cannot be accurately titrated since the change in absorbance is not sufficiently large enough to permit an accurate location of the equivalence point.

Zusammenfassung

10−4-m Fe(III)-Lösungen lassen sich photometrisch mit ÄDTA gegen Tiron als Indikator titrieren. Gleiche Konzentrationen von Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cr(III) und Al(III) stören nicht, im Gegensatz zu Cu(II), Sn(IV), V(IV) und Ti(IV). Fe(III)-Konzentrationen von 2 · 10−5-m können hingegen nicht genau titriert werden, da der Extinktionsumschlag nicht deutlich genug ist, um den Äquivalenzpunkt genau zu erfassen.
