Summary
A method is described for the determination of boron in sea water. Concentration by boiling followed by chelation and extraction with 2-ethyl-1,3-hexanediol in methyliso-butyl ketone facilitates the accurate measurement of boron content by atomic absorption spectrophotometry using a boron hollow cathode tube. The values obtained are in excellent agreement with the standard colorimetric method using Carmine.
