Summary
A method for the drying and weighing of decimilligram amounts of hygroscopic and volatile substances in small quartz vessels with interchangeable ground joints1,2 was investigated. It was found necessary to improve the joints by a few turns of individual grinding with carborundum powder 1200, and to tighten the joints manually after drying. The necessary weight correction for a weighing time of 10 minutes at 50% relative humidity, 25° C is then about 0.5μg.
It appears difficult to weigh out substances with a vapour pressure higher then 10 torr accurately with such vessels, even when a correction is applied for the diffusion. Such substances should preferably be weighed out in hermetically sealed vessels4,5.
Man verwendet dann besser hermetisch verschlossene Gefäße.
