Summary
A microanalytical method has been developed for determining sulfur in organic materials. The sample, which may also contain nitrogen or halogen, is burned in pure oxygen at 1400° C. The combustion products are freed of interfering materials and led into a mixture of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The sulfur dioxide is thus oxidized to sulfuric acid, whose amount is determined by relative conductivity determination. The various methods of introducing the sample into the combustion tube have been investigated thoroughly and compared with each other on 18 different test materials. Statistical analysis of the findings showed that flawless values result if the sample is introduced by means of a cartridge. The method is well suited for the automation of micro ultimate analysis.
