Summary
It was possible to detect through gamma spectrometry the three short-lived elements barium-140, lanthanum-140, and iodine-131 in samples of rain water collected on January 1, 1961. Since only the French atom bomb was exploded during this time period (December 27, 1960), it is assumed that the present experiment involves the fission products of this nuclear process. In contrast, samples collected on May 12, 1961 showed no definite results which could be attributed to the French nuclear weapon trial at the end of April 1961.
