Summary
Malachite green in solution reveals the presence of iodine through a green color. Thin layer chromatography and IR-spectrography demonstrated that the green product is an addition compound of malachite green. The indication is also suitable for titrations in 0.001N solutions. The sensitivity of the iodine-malachite green reaction is greater in the presence of acetone and glycerol than that of the iodine-starch reaction.
