Summary
In addition to the stability of the laser output parameter, which above all is conditioned by the temperature of the resonator rod and the stability of the switch dyestuff in passively switched solid state lasers, the chief causes of deviations in the measured line intensities are scattering in the distribution of the components and the spatial spreading of the material vapor cloud, the discharge course of the auxiliary spark and especially the temporal and spatial coincidence of the material vapor cloud and the auxiliary arc discharge. When all is done to increase the reproducibility of the laser function as well as to shape the material vapor cloud more homogeneously in its composition and to render it more reproducible with respect to its spreading or to achieve optimal activation in the auxiliary discharge, then the prerequisites have been attained for quantitative laser-micro-spectral analyses. A significant step toward this goal has been supplied by the employment of the independent ignition and a passively switched laser.
