On the parametric description of an inhomogeneous, optically dense plasma

II. The doppler shape of a spectral line

Soviet Physics Journal Aims and scope

Abstract

On the basis of the model of Bartels [1, 2], the inhomogeneity parameter is calculated along the profile of a spectral line for the case of “purely” Doppler distribution under the conditions in the source given in [3]. The frequency dependence of the inhomogeneity parameter is found to be even larger than for a dispersive distribution; this must be taken into account in plasma diagnostics from spectral line shapes.
