Abstract

The phenomenon of the instability of plane and axisymmetric separation zones, starting from the leading edge of a semiinfinite plate with a mounded plane step, and from the apex of a cone with a mounted axisymmetric step (with a flap) is investigated herein. The instability of the separation zone is understood to be the periodic strong expansion, total disappearance, and new formation of a separation zone.
