Summary

Threshold values and odour qualities of a series of alicyclic and aromatic aldehydes were determined in air by gas Chromatographic olfactometry. Aldehydes bearing terminal phenyl or cycloalkyl substituents exhibited threshold minima at eight carbon atoms, as did saturated straight chain aliphatic aldehydes. Straight alkyl chains resulted in lower threshold values than cyclic structures.

Zusammenfassung

Die Schwellenwerte und Geruchsqualitäten einer Reihe von alicyclischen und aromatischen Aldehyden wurden mit einer gaschromatographisch-ol-factometrischen Methode in Luft ermittelt. Wie bei gesättigten aliphatischen Aldehyden, lag bei Aldehyden mit endständigem Phenyl-oder Cycloalkylrest das Schwellenwertminimum bei 8 Kohlenstoffatomen. Gestreckte Alkylketten bewirkten bei gleicher C-Zahl niedrigere Schwellenwerte als Ringstrukturen.
