Microchimica Acta Aims and scope

Summary

1,3-Bis[(2-pyridyl)methyleneamino)thiourea (PMAT) and 1,3-bis- [(2-pyridyl)methyleneamino]guanidine (PMAG) have been examined to evaluate their usefulness as selective spectrophotometric reagents for cobalt. Both reagents form yellow chelates which are stable in acid medium, especially PMAT at pH<1. Three spectrophotometric procedures have been developed for determination of cobalt, two with PMAT withλ 420 or 450 nm and molar absorptivities of 2.20×104 and 1.15×104 l·mole−1|sdcm−1, respectively, and one with PMAG withΛ 450 nm andε=3.4×104l·mole−1·cm−1. The methods have been applied to the determination of a hydrorefining catalyst with good results.
